Kumon's Goal

It all began with one father and his son.
And now, right at this moment, someone, somewhere around the world is learning with Kumon.

Our global society is now entering an era of great change. Therefore, the development of human resources has become a crucial issue that every country has to deal with. In this diversified world, people who are able to learn on their own, and continuously take on new challenges, are needed more than ever.

Over the past 50 years, Kumon with strong feelings of wanting children to acquire superior basic academic skills and the ability to learn independently has accumulated a tremendous amount of experience in developing children's potential. We at Kumon believe in the potential of every student we interact with, and to draw out their abilities even further, we determine each individual's “just right” level, developing their abilities to the maximum. The Kumon Method, which was developed by a father for his child, is now available in 48 different countries and regions, including Japan, around the world.

In Japan, not only children, but opportunities for adults to learn with Kumon are also spreading.

The goal of Kumon's penmanship and calligraphy classes is to develop beautiful writing. Through these lessons, adults too tackle fresh challenges, experience the pleasure of achievement and, while enjoying learning itself, find a new motivation in life. Kumon Learning Therapy and Kumon Learning for a Healthy Brain Centers for senior citizens, which involve simple calculation and reading aloud exercises, are designed to provide beneficial stimulation to the brain. Respectively, they aim to ameliorate the symptoms of senile dementia and prevent its onset. As they study, senior citizens gain enjoyment through communicating with those who support their learning. In this way, Kumon assists people from all ages in their learning experiences.

Learning brings out the potential in people, regardless of age and interests. It is our desire to create vibrant communities where every child and adult shines through learning. We at Kumon are striving daily to contribute toward the realization of new local communities with learning at their core.

For the next 50 years as an organization that values the individual, we will endeavor to contribute to both local communities and the global community through increasingly supporting the learning experiences of children and adults around the world.

Furthermore, we aim to continue being a group of active educators, always striving and asking ourselves what we need to be doing for the benefit of the students. To that end, we will highly value every student and faithfully accept our responsibility of providing places of learning 24 hours a day, always being open somewhere around the globe. It is our pledge that we will daily continue to learn, and work vigorously, toward realizing world peace through education.
